SHANGHAI – Flextronics plans to expand in inland China, where it could be looking to site both manufacturing facilities and design centers, according to published reports.
The electronics manufacturing services and printed circuit board fabricator has manufacturing operations in Beijing, Shenzhen, Ganzhou, Shanghai, Nanjing, Suzhou, Zhuhai and Hong Kong, including industrial parks in Shanghai and Zhuhai, according to its website, and currently has 15 design centers in China, says China Daily.
Flextronics is looking develop additional centers in China’s interior, China Daily reported today, quoting vice president of sourcing and procurement Mark Shandley.
The EMS firm hopes to better engage local markets and meet clients' needs, Shandley reportedly said, while acknowledging that China's costs are rising and counterfeiting continues to pose a risk to local manufacturers.

MANILA – The Philippine government, in concert with a domestic trade group, has launched an electronics testing program, according to published reports.
The program funds the establishment of an electronics testing facility, which the government hopes will reverse the trend to go offshore for such services.
The program is being set up by the Department of Science and Technology with the Electronics Industry Association of the Philippines and other agencies.

The Maryland Economic Development Assistance Fund reportedly provided ELTA with a $300,000 10-year loan, provided the firm creates 100 jobs at the Maryland location by 2021.
ELTA is a subsidiary of Israel Aerospace Industries. The firm produces electronic radar, communication and surveillance equipment.
The firm has $1 billion in annual sales, 90% from exporting defense systems.
