CHICAGO -- The number of transactions involving EMS companies during the second quarter fell by one from last year, but is expected to rise during the remainder of 2013 on an improving economy, according to a Chicago-based investment bank.
SHENZHEN -- Nam Tai Electronics swung to a second-quarter net loss of $31.9 million despite a big jump in sales. For the period ended June 30, the contract electronics manufacturer said net sales were up 64% to $167.9 million.
KUNSHAN, CHINA-- Foxconn said allegations that its has polluted a major river in China are false, insisting that its printed circuit board plants here meet all local laws and regulations. The denial comes in response to a report released last week by the Institute of Public & Environmental Affairs and other nonprofit organizations that accuses Foxconn of dumping wastewater containing high levels of heavy metals.

MINNEAPOLIS -- CyberOptics swung to a second-quarter net loss of $1.2 million, down from net income of $143,000 a year ago. The net loss improved 43% from a loss of $2.1 million in the March quarter.
PATHUMTANI, THAILAND -- SVI Public Co. reported consolidated net income of $6.3 million in its second quarter, up $1.17 million from a year ago. Net sales for the period rose 17% sequentially to $63 million but were down $4 million from 2012.
