MINNEAPOLIS HEI Inc. reported third-quarter net sales were $7 million, down 38% year-over-year.
 
The firm generated a net loss of $1.03 million, compared to net income of $156,000 for the same period last year.
 
Net sales for the first nine months of fiscal 2009 were $23.7 million, down 25% compared to the prior year period. The net loss was $934,000, compared to net income of $377,000.
 
"The results reflect the impact of some pricing concessions we made in order to retain certain business for HEI, and the discontinuation of certain products by some of our customers. The third quarter appears to be the low point," said HEI CEO Mark B. Thomas.

TAIPEIFoxconn is in talks with Acer about producing its notebooks, say published reports.
 
Acer currently outsources its notebook production, with 40% of the 2010 production going to Compal Electronics, and Wistron and Quanta Computer getting 20% to 30% each. Remaining orders will go to Inventec, reports DigiTimes.
 
However, some analysts discount the odds that Foxconn will receive orders from Acer in the near future, the reports say.

WASHINGTON – New orders for US computers and electronics in October fell 2.1% from September on a seasonally adjusted basis. That's down from the 0.2% drop in September.
 
Computers and electronics orders for the month were $24.5 billion, says the US Commerce Department.
 
US computers and related product orders dropped 7.2% sequentially, compared to a 0.3% increase in September. October orders fell to $4 billion.
 
Communications orders dipped a slight 0.2% in October, reaching $5.1 billion, after a drop of 5.3% in the prior month.
 
Defense capital goods orders decreased 18.4% in October to $8.5 billion, after a gain of 5.6% in September.

WEST VALLEY CITY, UTCirTran Corp. reported net sales of $2.7 million for the quarter ended Sept. 30, down 13.3% year-over-year, driven by continued softness in the electronics assembly and contract manufacturing segments.
 
CirTran USA accounted for 7% and 8% of total revenues during the 2009 quarter and 2008 quarter, respectively. Revenues were generated by low-volume electronics assembly activities consisting primarily of the placement and attachment of electronic and mechanical components on PCBs and flexible cables.
 
CirTran Asia’s sales were 2% and 4% total revenues during the three months ended Sept. 30, 2009 and 2008, respectively. CirTran Asia manufactures and distributes electronics, consumer products and general merchandise to companies selling in international markets.
 
CirTran Products’ sales comprised 0% and 2% of total sales for the quarters ended Sept. 30, 2009, and 2008, respectively. The segment pursues contract manufacturing relationships in the US consumer products markets.
