TAIPEI – The world’s No. 3 PC maker,
Acer Inc., reported its fourth-quarter net profit was $71.88 million, up 77% year-over-year, with its purchase of
Gateway. Profit fell 21.8% sequentially. Acer said its 2007 net profit rose nearly 21% year-over-year.
The company expects notebook shipments to rise 40% and total PC shipments to increase 30% to 35% in 2008.
Acer completed its $710 million acquisition of Gateway in October. Reports say Acer aims to fully integrate Gateway into operations by March.
Research firm IDC said Acer shipped 7.93 million PCs worldwide in the fourth quarter, including 1.53 million units to the U.S.
