SUNNYVALE, CA – Chief technology officer Phil Hester of Advanced Micro Devices Inc. is leaving the semiconductor giant today, according to published reports.
Hester, CTO and a senior vice president, is stepping down to pursue other opportunities, AMD reports.
He joined the company in 2005 and previously worked for IBM Corp. for more than two decades.
AMD does not plan to fill the open position in his absence, instead looking to five chief technology officers in each of the company’s major business units to take on Hester’s responsibilities.
The resignation comes during AMD’s struggles against competitor Intel Corp.
