WESTLAKE, OH -- Nordson Corp., parent company to EFD, Asymtek and other top electronics OEM suppliers, reported first-quarter sales fell 24% from a year ago to $187 million. For the quarter ended Jan. 31, net income was down 48% to $11 million.

Nordson attributed 19 points of the revenue drop to lower volumes and five points to unfavorable effects of currency translation.

Adhesive Dispensing fell 16%, and Advanced Technology dropped 33% from a year ago. Sales decreased 6%  in Japan, 22% in the Americas, 23% in the US, 24% in Europe and 35% in Asia Pacific.

Three-month average orders and backlogs fell 31% from a year ago. Adhesive dispensing was down 19% and Advanced Technology was down 43%.

Nordson guided for second-quarter sales to drop 34 to 38%.
