MANKATO, MNWinland Electronics reported fourth-quarter net sales of $7.8 million, up 3.6% year-over-year.

The designer and manufacturer of custom electronic control products and systems said net income was flat, compared with net income of $7,000 in the comparable period in 2007.

EMS sales for the quarter totaled $7.1 million, up 7.1%.

Operating income for the quarter totaled $62,000 versus an operating loss of $189,000 in 2007. EMS segment operating income for the period totaled $476,000, up 15.8% year-over-year.

For the year, net sales totaled $28.7 million, down 17.5% compared to 2007. EMS net sales declined 20% to $25.3 million for the year. EMS operating income totaled $1.1 million, down 37.5% from the prior year.

During the fourth quarter, Select Comfort (Select), one of the firm’s three largest customers, said it would let its agreement with Winland expire Mar. 20.
