TOKYO -- The 90-day moving average orders for Japan-based semiconductor equipment manufacturers was 35.6 billion yen ($377.3 million) in June, up 37% over the revised May figures.
The book-to-bill ratio for the month was 1.27, the Semiconductor Equipment Association Japan said, meaning that 127 yen worth of orders were received for every 100 yen worth of product billed. The ratio is nearly double that of May (0.66).
Bookings were down 59.4% from June 2008, SEAJ said. The 90-day average worldwide billings was 28.1 billion yen, down 28.2% from final May figures and 68.2% from June 2008 billings.
Japan was the world's largest chip equipment spender last year, at $7.04 billion. Earlier this month, SEMI forecast Japan's semiconductor equipment investment would slip to second, behind North America.
