NORTH BILLERICA, MABTU International Inc. reported second-quarter net sales of $10.8 million, down 47% compared to the same quarter a year ago, and up 10% sequentially.

Net loss for the period was $3.5 million, compared to net income of $300,000 in the second quarter of 2008, and a net loss of $4.6 million sequentially.

Net sales for the first six months of 2009 were $20.6 million, down 44.3% from the first six months of 2008. Net loss for the six months ended June 28 was $8 million, compared to a net income of $400,000 last year.

"During the quarter, we saw strengthening in the electronics business, especially in the printed circuit board assembly market. Although revenues in our solar business were down for the quarter, we did ship several of the first new products to key customers for both silicon and thin-film applications,” said Paul J. van der Wansem, BTU chairman and CEO.

BTU supplies advanced thermal processing equipment and processes to the alternative energy and electronics manufacturing markets.
