LAMPHUN, THAILANDHana Microelectronics reportedly could spend $30 million to $35 million to expand production facilities, hiring up to 1,000 more staff in 2010.

The firm expects to invest in its Lamphun, Thailand plant, where Hana makes PCB assemblies. The facility is currently running at 90% capacity, a company vice president told the Bangkok Daily.

The semiconductor packaging business could also increase IC packaging capacity at its Ayutthaya plant.

The firm currently has 9,500 workers.

Hana is projected to have a strong first quarter on demand for computers, cellphones and medical equipment.
