ANGLETON, TX -- While others in the EMS industry are buying up competitors and announcing expansion plans, Benchmark Electronics has no plans to alter its global footprint, company executives say.

"It is worthwhile to note that we believe that our footprint and infrastructure is adequate for our planned and incremental growth," president Gayla Delly said last week. Pointing to the company's current utilization rate -- about 58% -- Delly said, "We still have room to grow."

While Benchmark has upgraded certain technology capabilities in Asia, the contract electronics manufacturer does "not expect that we need to add new sizeable facilities in the near term, but will continue to invest and expand in our existing facilities to support our customer demand."

Delly added that component supply constraints continue and are not expected to ease until at least the third and possibly the fourth quarter.
