ATLANTA -- A new white paper seeks to shed light on the counterfeit component trend plaguing the electronics manufacturing industry, highlighting inbound inspections and counterfeit avoidance.

World Micro quality director Art Ogg's work references many Independent Distributor's of Electronics Association protocols, several of which are becoming industry standards.

"The evolution and sophistication of counterfeit electronics has grown exponentially during the past year," said Ogg, citing his inspiration for researching and publishing the work.

IDEA executive director Debra Eggeman said, "World Micro's new paper is an excellent document that provides key insights into the number of coatings that criminals use to fraudulently remark parts. This paper also provides meaningful information for certified inspectors when performing their inbound process."

Since contaminated supply can enter the marketplace in a number of avenues, World Micro has established a zero tolerance policy and assumes all components to be counterfeit until its process proves otherwise.

A copy of the white paper, False Top Coatings of a Counterfeit Component: Revealed Layer by Layer, is available here.
