BILLINGSTAD, NORWAY – EMS firm Kitron reported second-quarter 2010 revenue of NOK 425.7 million, up 1.3% compared to the same quarter last year on higher medical demand.

Profit before tax and discontinued operations was NOK 1.7 million, down 37% year-over-year.

Orders for the quarter were NOK 507.8 million, up 21.8% compared to the same period in 2009.

Revenue in the data/telecoms segment dropped 14.7%, while defense was down 1.7%. Medical equipment grew 38.9% year-over-year.

In the first half of 2010, Kitron’s revenue was NOK 836.8 million, down 13.8% year-over-year. Profits before tax and discontinued operations were NOK 4.7 million, down 83% compared to 2009.

Order intake was NOK 914.5 million, up 17.7% year-over-year.

As the global economy recovers, Kitron expects to see increased demand. The backlog at the end of the second quarter indicates the second half will show growth compared to 2009, the company said.
