HANOI -- Taiwan-based companies have invested $22.58 billion to date in Vietnam, ranking the island nation second among direct investors there.

Taiwan companies have made investment in 2,130 projects, second to the Netherlands, Vietnam’s Ministry of Planning and Investment said.

Among the Taiwanese firms making inroads are contract notebook PC manufacturer Compal Electronics, which has invested $500 million, and Foxconn, which has budgeted $5 billion over a five-year span.
