JASPER, IN – Kimball International said it would transfer all work at its Fremont, CA, electronics assembly facility by the end of September to its plant here, according to published reports.
The California site, which produces electronics mainly for the medical field, will be closed.
Some of the facility’s 52 employees will have the opportunity to transfer to Jasper, but the firm is unsure how many will take the deal.
The Jasper site currently has 471 staff, and Kimball plans to hire more workers there and add a new production shift, for a total of three.
For the fiscal year ended in June, 60% of Kimball's sales were from its electronics division, and 40% were from its furniture business, say reports.
