BRASILIA -- It took a meeting between Foxconn Technology Group chairman Terry Gou and Brazilian president Dilma Rousseff, but a planned multi-billion dollar investment by Foxconn is back on.
The world's largest ODM/contract electronics manufacturer will invest up to $12 billion over an undisclosed period of time to build local campuses to produce computers and other consumer devices for the likes of Apple, among others, a Brazilian spokesman said.
Brazilian Science and Technology Minister Aloizio Mercadante made the remarks yesterday after a lengthy saga prompted by Foxconn's initial announcement last April and culminating in Brazil's recent approval of a series of tax incentives.
Foxconn will put a facility in Jundiai, Sao Paulo, and is in talks with several other potential locales as well.
