WINFIELD, KS -- The husband and wife team of Adam and Jill Conaway, engineering technicians from S and Y Industries, won first and third place, respectively, in the IPC Apex Expo hand soldering competition last month.

The Conaways competed with 22 other competitors from 18 companies to build a functional electronics assembly within 30 minutes. Participants were awarded points based on soldering in accordance with IPC-A-610E, Acceptability of Electronic Assemblies, Class 3 criteria, the speed at which the assembly was produced and its overall functionality. Adam Conanway earned a 97 out of 100 possible points, good for first place and the $500 grand prize. Jill Conaway scored a 94 points to earn third place honors and $100. Jill Conaway also had the fastest completion time of the entire competition.

Adam Conaway also won the overall Hand Soldering championship, besting IPC Midwest Conference champion Nichole DeVries of Raven Industries and the IPC Europe champion Linnea Gyllner of TRIAB Elektronik, earning an additional $1,000 from IPC.
