NEENAH, WI — Plexus is expanding in China and Romania, but the slow economy has put its planned addition here on hold.

Plexus had previously announced its would build a $7 million, 20,000 sq. ft. data and development center here, near its global headquarters. However, the EMS firm has pushed out construction until April 2013.

City officials said Plexus has been paying fees ahead of the project, a sign of its commitment to the project.

Elsewhere, the world's ninth largest contract assembler is finishing a $25 million, 180,000 sq. ft. manufacturing plant in Xiamen, China, its second there. The combined sites will employ about 2,100 workers when fully ramped, the company told the Post-Cresent, a Neenah area paper.

And Plexus has increased its planned investment in Oradea, Romania, where it now plans to employ about 1,000 people. Plans now call for a $40 million, 400,000 sq. ft. plant. Original plans called for a $25 million to $30 million investment of between 160,000 to 215,000 sq. ft.
