HONG KONG -- EMS firm Surface Mount Technology (Holdings) Ltd. has asked its creditors for more time to meet its financial obligations, the company said today.

The contract assembler asked for an extension of the so-called "standstill agreement" with a
majority of its lenders, which is currently scheduled to expire March 31.

The company made the request for an extension on March 20, and it is currently being processed by the Security Trustee.

SMT Holdings has been undergoing a corporate reorganization.
