MAKATI, PHILIPPINESIntegrated Micro-Electronics Inc. said it plans to focus on significant emerging electronics applications, particularly in the rebounding automotive safety market.

"We anticipate to profit from increasing automotive electronic content through the development of driver assistance systems, safety-related control devices, electronic steering modules, and ignition modules,” said Arthur Tan, IMI president and chief executive of the top 30 electronics manufacturing services provider.

IMI is also seeking opportunities in advanced power packaging, power modules, next-generation inverters for hybrid and electric vehicles, and solar energy, Tan said.

“With the emergence of new applications of electronics for the industrial and medical fields, IMI will benefit from ventures with high-technology makers of accelerometers, smart meters, deep sea oil-drilling sensors, and medical camera pills,” Tan added.

IMI is coming off a record year in which the contract assembler reached $575.5 million in consolidated sales revenues, up 40% on higher sales in automotive and industrial sales and acquisitions. In July, IMI completed the acquisition of EPIQ's subsidiaries in Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, and Mexico, bringing its total manufacturing sites to 17.

“The variety of locations leads to a diversity in markets and operations, and an increase in programs to accommodate the needs of a wider client base. This will help ensure greater stability for IMI, as cultivating a broader, healthier mix of clients is certain to protect the company from the effects of market downturns,” said Tan.
