GLENVIEW, IL -- ITW reported revenues grew 6.4% year-over-year to $4.55 billion for its first quarter ended March 31.
Organic or base revenues grew 3.2% with North American organic revenues increasing 6.6% and international organic revenues were essentially flat. European organic revenues fell 1.2% while Asia Pacific organic revenues grew 3.1%.
Operating income grew 7% to $705 million, and operating margins rose 10 basis points to 15.5%.
Total revenues for the Power Systems and Electronics segment increased 11.1%, mainly on demand for welding. The electronics businesses were hampered by weak worldwide consumer demand and related inventory destocking, and electronics organic revenues declined 10.5%. Segment operating margins were 21.4%.
Power Systems and Electronics is home to such businesses as printed circuit assembly equipment OEMs Speedline Technologies and Vitronics-Soltec. ITW also owns Kester Solder.
