TOKYO -- Top 10 EMS provider SIIX reported second-quarter net income of 1.89 billion yen, up 1% year-over-year.

Japan's largest contract electronics assembler said revenues were flat at 90.9 billion yen. Operating income fell 1.1% to 2.59 billion yen for the period ended June 30.

Higher demand for household (white goods) and industrial printed circuit assemblies were partially offset by slackening orders for automotive and communications gear.

"The Japanese economic situation remains challenging, although there has been moderate recovery against the backdrop of demand related to reconstruction and other factors," SIIX said.

Asia makes up 69% of SIIX's sales, with Japan next at 21%. In March the company opened its first EMS plant in China.

SIIX ranked 8th in the CIRCUITS ASSEMBLY Top 50 this year.
