BROMONT, CANADA – The US PTO has issued Cogiscan a patent for automating the use of RFID tags to identify reels of electronic components.

The patent, which Cogiscan markets as Closed-Loop Reel Setup Verification and Traceability, also covers the identification of antennas and readers embedded in storage locations, feeder setup stations, feeder trolleys and placement machines.

The invention is said to eliminate the need for manual intervention for data entry during the manufacturing data process, says the firm. Also, operators no longer have to scan barcode labels on a reel of parts.

This patent is the latest in a series of patents previously issued for different aspects of Track, Trace and Control technology.
