CHENGDU, CHINA -- Workers at Compal's factory here walked off the line Thursday in protest of working hours and wages.

The strike has brought production at the PC factory to a halt.

The company, which builds a reported 100,000 PCs per month in Chengdu, said production will be moved to other factories in China.

The strike involves up to 2,000 workers. Local government officials are working to resolve the matter, which it tied to an adjustment in work hours and payment, a company official said, likely code for overtime.
