Dynamic Controls to Close EMS Division
CHRISTCHURCH, NZ – Dynamic Controls said it would close its money-losing contract manufacturing division here and lay off up to 60 workers.
The unit will wind down existing programs over the next six to nine months.
EMS staff could move to DC's Medical Mobility division, but it’s likely layoffs will start in March. The company said it is contacting competitors and other electronics manufacturers in the area to see if they need staff.
DC's parent company, US-based Invacare, is said to be committed to keeping Dynamic Controls' R&D center in Christchurch. However, the contract manufacturing arm's share of the company's revenue has been in decline, falling from 20% a few years ago to 10% today.
