MUNICH -- Matrix Technologies has acquired fellow inspection equipment OEM FocalSpot for an undisclosed amount, the companies announced today.
Founded in 2003, FocalSpot is a designer and manufacturer of manual, entry-level x-ray inspection equipment. Its current installed base is about 400 machines worldwide.
In a press release, Matrix said the deal expands its line of cost-effective x-ray inspection products, and it would make a "significant investment" to enhance FocalSpot's current x-ray product line. The deal also strengthens Matrix's market position in North America.
"The acquisition of FocalSpot positions us to increase our market share for manual and automated in-ine x-ray inspection solutions in the US through a dedicated regional sales and service approach," said Matrix managing director Eckhard Sperschneider. "The high degree of x-ray system knowledge gained during various system applications and projects over the past 20 years will position the company for continued success. "
Upon closing, Matrix-FocalSpot will provide direct customer and sales support for Matrix's AXI/MXI systems in North America.
"We are extremely excited to join the Matrix team," FocalSpot founders Fred Schlieper and Frank Silva said. "Matrix has developed state-of-the-art automated inspection products and software and we look forward to leverage those technologies into the FocalSpot product line and work with their talented application and development staff".
