DONGGUAN, CHINA -- A 14-year-old boy was found dead at a 3CEMS factory where he worked. The news sparked immediate criticism over the use of underage workers in China.
Liu Fuzong was found dead in his dorm at the site in May 21, PC World and others are reporting. No cause of death has been reported.
The minimum age for workers in China is 16. Liu apparently had landed the job via a third-party employment services company.
The site builds PC equipment for Asus, according to the China Labor Watch, an NGO that is investigating the incident. Asus hasn't commented specifically on the worker's death, but said today that the PC company holds the highest ethical standards and has sent representatives to investigate.
3CEMS is a subsidiary of First International Computer, and is one of the largest EMS companies in the world.
