GRAND RAPIDS, MI -- EMS companies Firstronic and Maxway Technology have formed a joint manufacturing operation to be based in Shenzhen, the companies said today.

The JV is called Maxtronic and will be initially be housed in Maxway’s 83,000 sq. ft. Shenzhen facility.

Both companies are focused on the automotive end-market, and use synchronous flow manufacturing, the companies said.

The new JV gives Firstronic a scalable manufacturing footprint in China and provides Maxway Technology with a partner who can provide similar geographic reach for projects that must be built in the US or Europe," Firstronic CEO John Sammut, said. "We chose to partner with Maxway because our company strengths complement each other well and we are similar in size and market focus. Both of our companies are heavily focused on the automotive market and expansion via JV provides a cost effective way to address the need to have a one-stop shop approach to that market."

Both companies utilize similar operations which incorporate synchronous flow manufacturing to provide medium-volume customers with tight production cycle times and schedule flexibility. The JV will incorporate the Lean manufacturing approach, as well. The JV will also capitalize on the companies’ complementary purchasing strategies and synergies. Firstronic has more depth and greater strength in utilizing distribution partners, while Maxway is strong in the sourcing of tooling, test fixtures and equipment, plastic injection mold tools and components, PCBs, and other custom parts, the companies said in a press release.
