VESTAL, NY -- Longtime IBM engineer Paul Blanchette died in an accident July 25. He was 61.

A resident of Vestal, Blanchette died in Myrtle Beach, SC. He is survived by his wife, Teresa, and children Ryan and Ashley.

A viewing will be held July 28 from 2 to 5 pm at Pucedo Funeral Home in Endicott, NY. The funeral will be held July 29 at St. Anthony of Padua, also in Endicott.

During his career at IBM's Microelectronics division, Blanchette helped usher in a variety of semiconductor packages that helped make system-on-a-chip a reality. Among the developments were plastic ball grid arrays, MCM-L, and glass ceramic chip carriers. He also was active in various industry associations such as IPC.
