MINNEAPOLIS -- Nortech Systems reported net income for the second quarter rose 49% from last year to $187,000. The EMS firm reported net sales of $28.5 million for the quarter ended June 30, up 1% from last year and 10% sequentially.
Operating income for the quarter rose 67% sequentially and 17% from 2012.
The contract assembler credited the improved profitability to improvements brought about by Lean initiatives, greater automation technology and higher plant utilization.
“We’re pleased to report profitable sales growth for the quarter,” said Mike Degen, CEO, adding that the company’s overall 90-day backlog rose 11% year-over-year. “Sales to defense customers were particularly strong in the quarter as we launched several new programs and a number of new customized cable assemblies.”
