DUBLIN, IRELAND -- The worldwide electronics manufacturing services market expanded 1.6% in 2012, well below the previous two years, according to a new research report. The industry continues to be characterized by inventory build-ups and supply chain anomalies, says Research and Markets, noting that 2010 growth was 37%, followed by an 11.3% jump in 2011.
Overall, the EMS industry has risen 9% over the past five years, says the research firm.
The firm forecasts total electronics assembly to grow to $1.5 trillion by 2017, up from $1.1 trillion in 2012, a 6.7% compounded annual growth rate. EMS sales are expected to rise 48% over that time, to $620 billion in 2017 from $419 billion in 2012.
