HELSINKI -- EMS provider Scanfil reported third-quarter sales rose 4.5% from a year ago to EUR 50.4 million. Operating profit was up 53.2% to EUR 4.2 million, and net profit was up 78% to EUR 3 million for the period ended Sept. 30.

Year to date, revenue is up 2.2% to EUR 143.1 million, operating profit has risen 26% to EUR 9.3 million, and net profit is up 15.9% to EUR 6.3million.

"Business operations developed favorably during the third quarter," said CEO Petteri Jokitalo, adding, "We are aiming for faster growth in turnover."

Sales to professional electronics customers have increased more than 15% for the year and accounted for 82% of overall sales, up from 73% a year ago. Sales to telecommunication customers continued to decline and accounted for 18% of revenue.

Finland is Scanfil's largest market, at 43% of sales followed by rest of Europe (22%), Asia (33%), and the US (1%).
