HAWTHORNE, CA -- OSI Systems today reported second fiscal quarters ales at its Optoelectronics business unit rose 33% year-over-year to $76.4 million. The unit, which provides components and electronics manufacturing services, helped boost the company's overall net sales 22% over the prior year.

Overall, the company reported revenues of $236 million for period ended Dec. 31, while net income grew 17.8% to $14.6 million. Excluding impairment, restructuring and other charges, net income for the just-ended quarter would have been $16.1 million.

As of Dec. 31, backlogs were approximately $900,000 million. During the quarter, the company generated cash flow from operations of $69 million and capital expenditures totaled $34 million.

Chairman and CEO Deepak Chopra said the firm also saw strength in its Security and Healthcare divisions. As a result, OSI raised its sales guidance for fiscal 2014 to $890 million to $920 million, an 11% to 15% increase over fiscal 2013.
