TAIPEI -- Foxconn, EMS provider for startups? It's true. The world's largest EMS/ODM has launched a website to connect with entrepreneurs looking for design and manufacturing support for their ideas.
According to the new Foxconn site, called Kick2real, there are now about two dozen projects underway. The model is a bit convoluted, but in short it marries the original idea with Kick2real engineers and other site members, effectively crowd-sourcing the development. Foxconn reportedly then selects the projects and helps the startups manufacture their product.
This is the latest in a series of moves by major EMS's to reach out to startups. Earlier this year, Flextronics announced its tech center in Milpitas, CA, would focus on seeking out and helping engineers generate working prototypes of conceptual devices.
