BANNOCKBURN, IL – A recent IPC survey-based study of quality benchmarks for the EMS industry showed, of 75 participating companies, the average number of printed circuit board assemblies in 2013 was more than 9 million.
The median number was 430,306.
Participating companies placed an average of nearly 3.5 billion components each in 2013 and a median number of 34.5 million components.
A median of 90% of components placed used surface mount technology, while 10% used plated through-hole.
Participating EMS firms primarily performed these types of production last year: printed circuit board assembly (91%); mechanical assembly operations (83%), and complete end product (71%).
Of the 75 companies, 67.1% were based in North America; 16.4% in Asia; 13.7% in Europe, and 2.8% in “other” locations.
Participating EMS companies had the following revenues: $10 million to $24.9 million (32.4%); $25 million to $49.9 million (22.5%); under $10 million (19.7%); $50 million to $99.9 million (9.9%); greater than $500 million (8.5%), and $100 million to $500 million (7%).
