DROGHEDA, LOUTH, IRELAND -- Rexxam will close its printed circuit board assembly plant here by year-end, leaving 70 employees out of work.

The company has not commented, but several labor and government officials have confirmed the reports.

Local government officials said they have been in talks with the company for some time but the decision would still have a "devastating" effect on the workers.

The plant was opened 25 years ago by the Brother printer company.
