MESA, AZ -- Jack McCullen, one of the primary drivers behind industry standards for electronics component handling, passed away last night.

McCullen, 75, spent the bulk of his career at Intel, where he was a senior staff engineer up until his retirement in 2013. Outside Intel, he was instrumental in promoting industry standards for semiconductors, for which he received several industry honors.

McCullen spent more than 20 years working on standards to enhance semiconductor reliability. He chaired various IPC and Jedec committees that worked on device reliability, moisture sensitivity standards (J-STD-020 and J-STD-033), and was member of the leadership team which initiated the annual JEDEC-JEITA joint meetings for alignment of US and Japan standards. As Semiconductor Technical Advisor for the US, McCullen was instrumental in promoting alignment of Jedec standards with semiconductor standards of the International Electrochemical Commission.

He graduated from Northrop University in California.

He is survived by his wife, Sandy. A memorial service is being scheduled.
