MINNEAPOLIS -- IBM scientist Marie Cole received the SMTA Founder's Award for exceptional service to the association and the electronics assembly industry. It is the trade group's highest individual achievement. 

In presenting the award, SMTA said the electronics industry has "benefited immensely from (Cole's) innovative foresight, industry impact, change management skill, and outstanding personal leadership qualities over the past 20 years. Her contributions of technical excellence at chapter events and conferences, on committees, and as a past board member have truly set the standard for SMTA."

Diganta Das, Ph.D., University of Maryland, CALCE, and Cheryl Tulkoff, DfR Solutions, received the Member of Technical Distinction award. Dr. Das organized the first CALCE/SMTA conference on Counterfeit Electronics in 2008, helping bring a major issue to light for the electronics industry. Tulkoff has shown exceptional support to the SMTA, presenting at chapter events and webinars, paper sessions and tutorials.

The Excellence in Leadership award went ot Dave Larson, TEK Products, for work in his native Oregon chapter and for helping form the new Puget Sound Chapter in Seattle.

THe International Leadership Award winner is KL Lim of Plexus Manufacturing, who helped with the Southeast Asia Technical Conference, and formed the Penang Chapter, for which he is now president.

The SMTA+ Corporate Partnership Award was presented to Indium, which joined the trade group in 1985 and has shown support at every level from chapter and board leadership positions to technical contributions at conferences, committees and publications.

The Oregon Chapter was named 2014 Chapter of the Year, with Dallas runner-up and the LA/Orange County Chapter third.
