WASHINGTON -- The Information Technology Industry Council has issued a statement criticizing the Obama Administration and Congress for failing to implement a comprehensive immigration reform.
In the statement from president and CEO Dean Garfield, the trade group, which represents 60 of the world’s leading technology companies, renewed its calls for Congress to fix what it called a "broken" US immigration system.
“While we appreciate the president’s efforts to address the problems in our employment based system, and look forward to further details, it is disappointing that neither he nor Congress have been able to seize the opportunity to accelerate economic growth by fixing our broken immigration system.
"Immigration policy is really innovation policy, and nowhere is that made more real than in Silicon Valley where half of the startups are founded by immigrant entrepreneurs. Congress should work together to pass bipartisan reforms because every day that goes by without fixing the dysfunction in our immigration system is another day new industries that create new jobs start overseas instead of here in America.”
