SAN FRANCISCO -- Fabrinet has broken ground on a new 50-acre campus outside Bangkok, where it will invest up to $35 million on a massive production site.
Fabrinet spent $13 million to acquire the land, and the first pilings were installed last month. Construction of the first building is expected to be completed within a year.
The firm estimated construction costs of the new building will be approximately $30 million to $35 million. The campus will ultimately include three buildings, totaling 500,000 sq. ft. of manufacturing space, and adding 150% to the EMS company's total manufacturing capacity.
The company also began generating revenue at its Fabrinet West facility in Santa Clara, CA, which began production during the quarter. The company has two lines in place at the site.
Chairman and CEO David Mitchell said, "We are excited about our strategy to expand new product introductions and are increasing our capacity to meet anticipated demand. We expect the investments we are making will continue to grab profitable growth, as our business scales in years ahead."
