TAIPEI -- Foxconn's attempted purchase of Sharp is "on the right track," Reuters is reporting, citing a person familiar with the matter.
The off-again/on-again saga, which dates to 2011, is an attempt by the world's largest EMS/ODM company to get control of critical LCD technology developed by Sharp -- and prized by key Foxconn customer Apple.
Foxconn won a two-party bidding war for Sharp last month, but immediately hit the pause button on the $6 billion deal, reportedly after learning of millions of off-the-books debt obligations that Sharp has accrued.
Foxconn chairman Terry Gou is meeting with Sharp in Bangkok today, the company said.
