SAN DIEGO – Autosplice has named Michael T. Reagan as president, to manage the company’s worldwide operations.
Reagan has more than 20 years’ experience in sales, marketing, engineering, and general management. Prior to joining Autosplice, he was with Delphi since 1988, most recently serving as director of the General Motors Business Unit.
“Mike Reagan is the ideal executive to lead Autosplice … to $500 million and beyond,” said Irwin Zahn, chairman and founder.
Autosplice supplies interconnect terminals, component assemblies, and automated applicator systems.
MACAO, CHINA – EMS provider Nam Tai Electronics today provided an update to the proposed reorganization of Nam Tai Group and its subsidiaries, NTEEP and JIC.
Nam Tai will take maintain its 73.18% stake in NTEEP and its 74.99% stake in J.I.C. Nam Tai will reduce its holdings in Zastron by 26.82 points, to 73.18%.
"We believe that the reorganization of our group structure, if completed on the bases of the revised proposals, would achieve a balance in the interests of our shareholders and those shareholders of our Hong Kong subsidiaries holding public-float shares," said John Q. Farina, Nam Tai's chief financial officer.
The reorganization of NTEEP and JIC under the revised proposal requires approval of a majority of the public-float shareholders of each subsidiary, and extraordinary general meetings for each company to present the proposals for reorganization as revised to its respective shareholders are to be scheduled in December.
Following the reorganization, the key assets of the enlarged JIC Technology Co. Ltd. will be cash and Namtek. JIC will carry out its business through Namtek (including two wholly-owned subsidiaries), a solution provider for digital dictionary software development in Japanese electronics. JIC aims to look for investments in business engaged in software development and design services, and other investments such as properties and bonds. JIC's business will not involve any interests in electronics manufacturing services.
JIC expects that cash balance of approximately $38.5 million will be used in investments or for ordinary share dividend payment to JIC shareholders, or a combination of both by June 30.
Combined year-to-date revenue of Namtek was $2.2 million. Combined net profit was $700,000. The combined net asset value of Namtek was $3 million as of Sept. 30.
CRANSTON, RI – AIM has acquired the right to sell SN100C solder paste and cored wire solder globally, in a deal struck with patent holder Nihon Superior last week. No financial or other terms were announced.
AIM has been formulating flux chemistries for these products for the North America and China markets for more than two years, the company reports. Manufacturing takes place at the company’s manufacturing plants in North America and Shenzhen. Sales and support services are offered worldwide.

VANCOUVER – Dr. Shigeo Shingo, credited with codeveloping TPS, also known as Lean, has published a new book called Kaizen and the Art of Creative Thinking.
In the book, Dr. Shingo reveals how he taught Toyota and other Japanese companies the art of identifying and solving problems.
Six models – the scientific thinking mechanism – are presented. These frameworks permit groups to deconstruct problems and rebuild them into improvement ideas. This concept is said to provide the foundation for any Lean initiative.
Dr. Shingo co-created the Lean concepts with Taiichi Ohno in the 1940s and 1950s while working at the Amano Manufacturing Plant in Yokohama, Japan.

PHOENIX – Avnet Electronics Marketing, an operating group of Avnet Inc., reports Tyco Electronics has extended its franchise agreement with Avnet to include all of Europe, Asia Pacific, Japan and India.
The extension of the global franchise agreement focuses on Tyco’s electronic components segment, including connectors and interconnect systems, relays, switches, circuit protection devices, sensors, wires and cable.
These products are used primarily in the automotive, computer, consumer electronics, communication equipment, appliance, aerospace and defense, industrial machinery and instrumentation markets.
SAN JOSE – Top tier EMS provider Sanmina-SCI plans to close an electronics factory in Tourlaville, France, in the Normandy region, by March, and lay off more than 300 workers, according to a published report.
The plant was acquired from Alcatel in 2002 and is the firm’s last manufacturing site in France, after closing Grenoble, Isle d'Abeau and Chateaudun sites, Agence France Presse reported.
Sanmina has been slowly consolidating capacity around the globe. Last February it announced the impending close of a factory in Lisburn, Northern Ireland. An assembly plant Fountain, CO, will close by year-end.
SAN JOSE – Worldwide semiconductor manufacturing equipment billings reached $11.13 billion in the third quarter, up 1% sequentially year-over-year, the trade group SEMI said.
BILLERICA, MA – Avici Systems has announced Labman One will provide depot repair and laboratory management services for Avici’s router business.
Labman One, in turn, will work with EMS firm Lightspeed Manufacturing to perform all component replacement and repair work for Avici.
“We have used Lightspeed for many years for everything from 1700-ball BGA replacements to wire adds,” noted James Loach, president of Labman One.
In February, Avici announced that it would move its operations from core router development to focus on its new business initiative, Soapstone Networks.
Avici expects final shipments of its router products by the end of 2007. Avici will continue to service its products under existing contracts.
REDMOND, WA – Data I/O Corp. announced the sale of selected patents and patent applications to Leannoux Properties AG for approximately $3.3 million.
The company expects a net gain of approximately $2.1 million, subject to customary closing conditions.
The proposed patents and applications to be sold relate primarily to technology used in Data I/O's Proline RoadRunner line. The company will retain a nonexclusive, royalty-free license.
The agreement includes customary representations and warranties for a transaction of this nature, including without limitation, representations and warranties regarding authority, title and validity.
The sale does not include technology related to the firm's most recent development programs.
Leannoux Properties is an unrelated party with no other material relationship to Data I/O.
