ATLANTA -- UP Media Group Inc. today announced a partnership with netCOMPONENTS to provide components part searching on the Printed Circuit Design & Manufacture and Circuits Assembly websites.

The new parts search allows users access to the inventory positions of included suppliers. Users will be able to send e-mail requests for quotes and purchase orders to included suppliers for any listed parts.

NORTH BILLERICA, MA -- BTU International will purchase the product lines and other assets of Radiant Technology Corp. for $500,000 in cash and up to 100,000 shares of stock, worth some $17.7 million after the market closed Feb. 9. Closing is expected by early March, the companies said, subject to customary closing conditions including RTC shareholder approval.

ROSEVILLE, CA -- International DisplayWorks Inc. has been named as the primary source by a major Taiwan consumer electronics manufacturer on a new MP3 product. Volume production is expected to begin in April, and will result in at least $5 million in annual sales for IDW.

The MP3 player uses a TFT display from IDW, the company said.

JACKSON, MI -- EMS provider Sparton Corp. won three contracts worth more than $24 million to manufacture sonobuoys for the U.S. Navy .

Sparton won a $20 million program to build the AN/SSQ-53F sonobuoy; a $2.5 million contract for the AN/SSQ-77C, and a $1.5 million program for the AN/SSQ-62E.

Production will take place in Sparton's DeLeon Springs, FL, facility and is expected to be completed by June 2007.


BUDAPEST -- Flextronics International will lay off up to 950 employees -- nearly half its workforce -- at its plant in Nyiregyhaza, in eastern Hungary, Reuters reported Tuesday, citing a local news agency.

According to the report, Flextronics has advised the local officials about the layoff.

The company reportedly employs 2,000 at the plant, which makes appliances and office electronics.

The report said Flextronics cited seasonality for the impeding layoffs.


TORONTO -- SMTC Corp., a mid-tier EMS provider, has begun building assemblies and perform final integration for an unspecified program for Telco Systems. No financial terms were announced.

Telco is a wholly owned subsidiary of BATM Advanced Communications,  a provider of carrier-class transport and access gear for IP and TDM networks.

SMTC is performing printed circuit board assembly and full chassis fabrication, integration and testing. Production began last quarter and will ramp to volume through the first quarter 2006.

SMTC is building assemblies in Toronto, and conducting chassis fabrication, PCBA integration, final test, and configuration in Boston.

ANGLETON, TX -- Benchmark Electronics reported sales of $625 million for its fourth quarter, up sharply from $524 million last year. Net income was up $4.5 million, to $24.7 million, for the quarter ended Dec. 31.

The company said it will expand its low-cost capacity while realigning elsewhere, specifically in in the U.K. It said it would take a $3.5 million to $4.5 million pretax charge for the closure of its U.K. facility.

PEMBROKE, BERMUDA – Tyco reported its Electronics Division had sales of $3.02 billion for its fiscal first quarter 2006, up 5% from last year. The division, one of three that split off from Tyco later this year, saw organic growth of 8%.

ANCHORAGE – The eruption of the Augustine volcano last week has sent ash clouds and steam over 40,000 ft. high in the Anchorage skies and has grounded cargo planes that use the the Alaska gateway.

The Augustine volcano erupted Jan. 27 and 28, spewing smoke and ash for miles. The volcano is located 180 miles southwest of Anchorage.

The eruption has caused air carriers to cancel flights from Asia and limit freight activity, and in some cases raise shipping rates.

 SAN JOSE -- Worldwide semiconductor sales in December dropped 2.2% sequentially to $19.95 billion, but beat last year's total by 8.6%, the Semiconductor Industry Association said today.

Worldwide sales of semiconductors set a new record at $227.5 billion in 2005, up 6.8% from 2004. SIA also forecast strong growth for 2006.

Santa Clara, CA -- Hunter Technology has entered a licensing agreement with Thermalworks to produce PCB interconnect solutions using Stablcor laminate products for PCB fabrication.

 
Stablcor is a carbon-composite laminate which is said to help PCB designers overcome obstacles in developmental and process design. Hunter has integrated the technology into its existing manufacturing capabilities and is positioned to become the prime manufacturer of Stablcor Boards for the commercial and military sector.

 
Hunter has the capability to take the bare boards through to full PCB Assembly, box build and test “in house.”
