BANNOCKBURN, IL – IPC and the EOS/ESD Association will launch an online ESD (electrostatic discharge) control certification program for electronics assembly trainers and operators.

The trade groups co-developed the standardized electronics ESD training and certification courses to train operators and trainers on ESD controls and best practices.

The courses and certifications will be delivered on IPC's online curriculum network called IPC Edge.

In announcing the program, IPC said the ESD Certification Program allows users to validate their knowledge and skills by passing an exam on ESD principles. For trainers, the ESD certification course was developed with an advanced training program to train instructors, thereby providing the necessary knowledge to help develop an effective ESD training program.

Ronald Gibson, certification chair for the EOS/ESDA, said: "Education is the key requirement in preparing manufacturing to handle future ESD sensitive device designs and will be required throughout all facets of the organization from the personnel handling the products to engineering and supervisors or management.” This course provides the training needed to master both basic and advanced topics pertaining to ESD. Further, compliance with this program, when adopted, applies to any person in the organization that handles ESD sensitive products.

The course will emphasize rigorous performance requirements, master expertise and commitment to quality and compliancy of ESD practices. It is based on requirements for ANSI/S20.20 for ESD control.
