ZURICH, SWITZERLAND -- Enics will lay off up to 65 workers at its electronics manufacturing factory in Västerås, Sweden, over the next six months.
The reductions make up about 25% of the company's local staff, the EMS company said. The company is making the moves based on the market outlook for 2017.
Enics said it considers the Västerås site strategic to its place in the Nordic market and it would optimize the operations to serve customers with competitive engineering, manufacturing, and after-sales services. The firm, which also had layoffs at the site in 2013 but later brought back staffing to pre-layoff levels, does not plan to shutter the site.
“We are investing in new sales activities and increased automation. The overall demand for professional high-quality electronics is increasing, and the changes we plan will further strengthen our abilities to provide value to our customers”, says Anders Hynén, General Manager, Enics Västerås.
Enics employs approximately 250 people in Västerås and around 3200 worldwide. The company also operates in Malmö, Sweden, in China, Finland, Slovakia, Switzerland and Estonia.
