BANNOCKBURN, IL – IPC has recognized the Hermes Standard outlining the transfer of board-related information, replacing a now-obsolete SMEMA specification.

The Hermes Standard has been assigned a new name, IPC-Hermes-9852, superseding IPC-SMEMA-9851.

IPC-Hermes-9852 is based on TCP/IP and XML protocols. It was developed and introduced to the market at Productronica in 2017 by The Hermes Standard Initiative, an independent and open group of vendors of SMT assembly equipment.

IPC-Hermes-9852 includes all features of SMEMA regarding board handover but addresses a wider range of additional requirements related to board handling, says IPC.

IPC and The Hermes Standard Initiative are convinced further deployment of the standard will be accelerated by maintaining it as free and open.
