SAN JOSE -- Jabil will expand the number of workers furloughed from its local plants to nearly 1,300, according to media reports.
The EMS company will sideline nearly three times as many workers as previously indicated, and will expand to affect four facilities, up from two.
According to reports, Jabil will furlough more than 550 workers at its North America Center of Excellence located on Great Oaks Blvd. site and another 289 at its Silver Creek sheet metal fabrication plant. That's in addition to the previously announced furloughs at Livermore and Fremont, where the company performs CNC machining and mechanical assembly.
Most of the furloughs will take place starting in December and are tied to weaker sales. Workers will be paid only a portion of their salaries during the period, the reports indicated.
