NEWARK, NY -- IEC Electronics has increased headcount by more than 20% over the past two quarters to meet higher demand, particularly from medical and aerospace and defense customers.
The EMS company added 100 employees over the past two quarters and 30 more in the first four weeks of its fiscal second quarter.
On a conference call this week with analysts, IEC executives said they expect the trend continuing in the upcoming months.
IEC saw growth in all three of its major markets in its most fiscal first quarter. Aerospace and defense now makes up 53% of the company's sales, medical 26%, and industrial 21%.
The firm added that backlogs have increased more than 15% since the end of fiscal 2018, and component shortages are expected to continue throughout fiscal 2019.
