JEFFERSONVILLE, IN -- Square E LLC is shutting down its EMS plant here, closing the book on an operation that lasted more than 40 years.
The company has changed hands several times over the years. Founded as Key Communications Service in 1976, it was sold to ProxyMed in 1998. It was then repurchased in 2004 for $5 million by Tom Hardy, a former owner, according to media reports.
Hardy renamed the company Key Electronics and moved it to its current 104,000 sq. ft. site.
Square E LLC was form in 2016 and incorporated in Indiana in March 2020, according to public records. The company received a Paycheck Protection Loan of between $350,000 and $1 million in April, according to government records.
