EINDHOVEN, THE NETHERLANDS -- VDL Groep has acquired privately held TBP Electronics for an undisclosed sum.

VDL an international conglomerate with approximately 15,000 employees across 106 companies. Founded in 1953 by Pieter van der Leegte, VDL Groep has total annual sales of about 5.78 billion euros.

Dirksland, The Netherlands-based TBP focuses on the industrial, medical and telecom sectors. It has 133 employees and annual revenues of more than 30 million euros. It operates production sites in Dirksland, and engineering and design in Eindhoven.

In a press release, Willem van der Leegte, president-director, VDL Groep, said, “We have the ambition to be a one-stop-shop industrial partner. With the activities of TBP in our ranks, we are taking a major step forward in the field of electronics assembly. We assume that the combination, especially with our activities in the field of high-quality mechanics, offers added value for our customers. In addition, TBP is active in many industries in which VDL is also active, such as semiconductor, medical, telecom and defense.”

Plooy will remain with TBP for a year as part of the transfer. Joost van Haperen has been appointed director at TBP.
